If you've never done a trade-up contract before, start here. The reasons are simple:
- Near-zero risk: A full contract costs €2–15. Even a worst-case loss is under €10.
- Abundant skins: Industrial Grade skins are extremely common and cheap on the Steam Market.
- Learn the formula: Practice float calculations, collection mixing, and probability weighting.
- Quick turnaround: Mil-Spec outputs sell fast due to high volume.
Once you're comfortable with the mechanics, graduate to Mil-Spec → Restricted for better profit margins.
Finding Profitable Industrial → Mil-Spec Contracts
The challenge at this tier is that most contracts have razor-thin margins. To find profitable ones:
- Focus on collections where Mil-Spec outputs have genuine demand (popular weapon skins)
- Target FN or MW outputs when the wear premium is significant
- Use cheap FT Industrial inputs (€0.03–0.30) to maximize ROI
- Check output liquidity — some Mil-Spec skins are hard to sell
TradeUpX scans all eligible collections and only shows contracts above your minimum ROI threshold.
Limitations and When to Level Up
Industrial → Mil-Spec trade-ups have clear limitations:
- Small absolute profits: Even 150% ROI on a €5 contract is only €2.50 profit
- Steam fee impact: The 13% fee hurts more at low values (minimum €0.01–0.02 fee per sale)
- Time vs. reward: Sourcing 10 cheap skins can take more time than the profit justifies
Level up when: You've completed 5–10 contracts successfully and have €20+ in profit. Move to Mil-Spec → Restricted where the same effort yields €5–30 profit per contract.
